I made everything within 3Ds Max, Photoshop, Zbrush, and UDK. I tried to use modular textures as much as possible but some assets required unique textures. There's a bit of reflections, distortions, depth bias, and other neat things in the water material. I created my own particle effects for the cannons and smoke but used Epic's textures included in UDK.
Battle of Lepanto
I always thought epic naval battles in movies like Master and Commander were super cool. Especially when they're firing broadside. I found a concept painting by RadoJavor on deviantART and it inspired me to make this scene.
